The Local Subaru Meets Series showcases some of the Subaru meets running all across America. I talk to Tim (wrxkid85) from Arizona and discuss the Eastside meet that’s weekly held at the marina of Tempe Town Lake! Sounds like a very cool meet Tim…but does Arizona know how to represent? 1) Could you give a brief description of yourself?
I’m 22, male. I attend Arizona State University (ASU). I’m getting my degree in Civil Engineering. I’m originally from Kansas City, MO. I’ve been an addict since I was 14, I got my first WRX (03, PSM) when I was 18. That was short lived, totalled it
and then in 05 I got another WRX (05, OBP). The car has an STi uppipe, an XS Power turboback, Cobb AP v.1, and a P&P td-04.
2.) Description of the meet? What do you guys do?
The meet is held at the Marina of Tempe Town Lake. We will meet up and chat for a couple hours on nice days, not so long on the hot ones. From the Marina, we will usually head to the Pavillions, or as we call it “The Pavs”. This is a huge car show for all makes, models, and eras. It has been going on for years and its a cool place to hang out some more and see some awesome rides. From there we all will get some dinner together or just head out our seperate ways.
3.) How did it come about? Is this meet a one-time thing or is it recurring?
I got the Eastside meet going back in November of 06. The Westside guys had their meet, but it was pretty far away for a lot of the guys on the Eastside. Back in MO I would go out every weekend to meets with my friends, so I got really sick of not having that here in AZ. So I made a thread about it. About the same time, on azawd.org, a member had started a similar thread. I kinda combined forces, between the boards, to form what is now the Eastside meet. The meet started off as an AWD meet, but recently has become dominately Subarus, woot! The Meet is every Saturday evening, around 6:00 pm. The Marina is off the beaten path so we attract alomst no unwanted attention. The park rangers know who we are and what we’re doing, they all are super nice. The view is awesome. We have the lake, you can see Sun Devil Stadium and ASU, some brand new high rises, and always a nice sunset. It’s an awesome place to take pictures too. We could not have found a better spot.
4.) Any memorable rides?
All the rides are nice. We have seen some race-ready track cars, some dyno queens, and a lot of sexy daily driven cars.
5.) Favorite part(s) of the meet?
I really enjoy getting everyone together and meeting new people. The drive from the Marina to the Pavs is always fun. At times we have had 20 cars is a group cruise to the Pavs. To pull up to a massive car show in a large group of Subarus is just awesome. Everyone takes notice.
6.) Any shout outs?
I would like to thank everyone that keeps coming to the meet… from the core group of guys that are almost always there to the guys that randomly come and go.
Big thanks to Tim for the responses and Brian for the photos! Arizona is representing!
