The Local Subaru Meets Series showcases some of the Subaru meets running all across America. We’re going to the SOCAL area once again to see what the Inland Empire Meet is all about. I talk to Michael (motoryder) to get the details. Thanks a lot Michael! (Minor editing was done by me.)
——————————-
So tell me about yourself:
I’ve been involved with the whole car scene for a while, and after getting my subaru and finding this whole community in 2005, i’ve been hooked ever since.
Could I get a brief description of your meet:
I actually came up with the thread for the meet after the original one was deleted in one of MYPREZA’s mistakes of using the internet on a cell phone. The original meet thread was started by dan aka psychoskip around mid to early 2004 and the mets have been happening ever since.
What’s the atmosphere like? Is it pretty chill?
Atmosphere is very laid back with a hefty dose of sarcasm, which makes the meets fun. You have ot kind of jump in on the jokes to have a good time at the meets. If you are the awkward guy who stands in the corner and is quiet all of the time, you probably won’t like to go to the meets, bottom line with the meet…introduce yourself! We get new faces all of the time, and if you aren’t antisocial, you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
What’s the age demographics? Teens? Young-adults? Middle-Aged? Mixed?
The age dempgraphic of this meet is pretty widespread, with the youngest being 18, and fairly new to cars, to the older 40 somethings who are seasoned autocrossers/track guys.
Can you name any of the regulars (NASIOC or real names)?
Some of the regulars to our meets include: (nasioc names): Psychoskip, Sako, Mannymohawk#5, Onefasazn, Dumbuglydragon, res2jen, narenji, WRXMANDO, SueBaroo, Scarsofterror, Subaru222, Phoenix991, neostai2dust, stinji, just to name a few.
What’s the average number of people that come to it?
Average number of people to come to the meets as of lately has been around 15 or so, with new faces all of the time. Some of the OC guys make it out on occasion also.
Got any cool/funny stories?
Every meet is a story, you’ll have to come to find out!
What’s some of the sweetest rides you’ve seen at the meet?
A couple of months ago, the guys from EDO performance brought out their FPRed equipped shop car. Stinji has a pretty bitchin track car that has been on the covers of a couple of magazines. White STi, orange wheels.
Best parts of the meet?
Best parts of the meet are just relaxing with friends and meeting new people.
Worst parts?
Worst parts are when people show up to start fights, it’s happened before, but not since 2006.
Thanks a lot Michael!
